RIAS: Pet insurance important for Firework Night

RIAS pet insurance has been recommended for animal owners ahead of Bonfire Night.

The insurance provider, which specialises in cover for people over 50, noted that pets can suffer from physical harm, fear and stress on Bonfire Night as fireworks explode.

RIAS said that its own pet insurance policy would be helpful but stressed that it is better to prevent any harm in the first case.

Pet owners were advised to keep animals in a safe place where they cannot escape if frightened by a loud noise.

Keeping music or the television on could help drown out of the bangs, while dogs should be walked before dark and kept on secure collars and leads.

Last week, RIAS also stressed the importance of keeping tyres properly maintained as the longer nights draw in.

Supporting a campaign by Tyresafe to keep tyres checked and properly inflated, RIAS also told drivers to ensure all engine fluids are topped up in the winter and ensure all lights work.
