Esure home insurance: Check cover before Bonfire Night

Homeowners have been urged by esure home insurance to check their cover before Guy Fawkes Night.

The insurance provider warns that people should make sure they are covered for personal liability claims in case of misfortune.

With approximately 2.8 million people in the UK planning to have a Bonfire Night party at their homes, esure said it is important to make sure one is protected if the worst should happen.

It said that a mishap with a bonfire or a firework could lead to a personal liability claim.

The organiser of any event, even if it just a small gathering at a private home, has a legal requirement to maintain a "duty of care".

Meanwhile, the Fair Investment Company said that home insurance claims increase over Halloween, as there are more cases of vandalism and malicious damage done to property than on any other day.

Spokesperson Rachael Stiles suggested removing items from outside the home, parking the car in the garage or a distance away and ensuring that one's home insurance covers malicious damage.
