Abbey bank accounts launched

New Abbey bank accounts with lifestyle benefits have been launched.

The two new accounts together carry bonuses worth more than £830 each, according to the financial services provider and cost £15 a month.

Parents and people who travel are the main targets for the new products, which are available online to Abbey e-banking customers.

The Travel Reward Bank Account includes multi-trip worldwide travel insurance worth £150, discounts and offers for hotels and holidays and annual airport lounge access.

In addition there is the Family Reward Bank Account, which offers various different kinds of insurance and family hotel and leisure offers.

Last week, Abbey warned that regular savers need to increase the amount of money they set aside each month in order to take inflation into account.

It found that the average saver puts away £194 each month, or £2,328 a year.

To maintain the capital in real terms, savers need to up the lump sum by five per cent.
