Leeds Building Society launches new fixed-rate bonds

The new one-year bond has a fixed rate of 4.75 per cent and the three-year bond has a fixed rate of five per cent, or two percentage points above the Bank of England's base rate of interest.
Leeds Building Society also announced that the new packages will enable savers to withdraw up to 25 per cent of the amount invested without any notification or penalty.
Karen Wint, Leeds Building Society's general manger for marketing and customer services, said that she expected the new bonds to be very popular.
She added: "Customers know exactly what they are getting and, with market experts predicting further base rate cuts, customers have an excellent choice of products that provide the ideal home for a short or medium term."
Last week the head of the Building Societies Association, John Goodfellow said that building societies would be more interested in protecting their customers who save than passing on the Bank of England's interest rate cuts to borrowers.
