Abbey Banking: Two-thirds of Brits suffer "payday mayday"

Abbey Banking has released a study today that shows that 64 per cent of Brits suffer what the bank calls a "payday mayday", meaning they run out of money before the end of the month and the arrival of their next pay cheque.

According to the report this failure to budget properly is most prevalent in the north of England, where 67 per cent regularly run out of money in their current account by the end of the month.

The survey shows that Scots are the best budgeters, but Steve Shore, director of banking at Abbey, said that overall, a "staggering" number of people failed to budget properly.

Mr Shore said: "With disposable income down and Christmas almost upon us, planning your finances carefully has never been more important."

This latest news comes after a survey last week by Verdict Research revealed that Brits would face larger bills for their Christmas food and grocery shopping this year.
