Confused.com urges motorists to take care as winter sets in

Confused.com has warned that drivers who have accidents due to wintry conditions could see their insurance premiums rise and has published advice for driving safely in colder weather.

The price comparison site warns that to avoid a potential financial squeeze, drivers should top up the anti-freeze in the radiator and check their tyres carefully before setting off to ensure that they are in a fit state to handle icy roads.

Other points to remember, according to Confused.com, include being extra wary of the dazzle caused by late sunrises and early sunsets and making sure there are no cracks in the windscreen that could accentuate this effect.

Will Thomas, car insurance expert at Confused.com said: "We would advise motorists to take more care when driving, especially in winter months. As well as the obvious danger of careless driving, accidents could also cost motorists financially."

Last week the AA said car insurance premiums could already be set to rise because of an increase in the number of whiplash claims.
