Abbey current accounts give £100 for switching

Abbey has announced that any customer who switches to its current account before Christmas will receive a "post-Christmas bonus" of £100.

The money will be paid directly into the customer's account on the condition that they pay in three deposits of at least £1,000 each in first six months.

Abbey's director of banking Steve Shore said he thought this would be easy for most customers as the Abbey switcher team could do all the hard work of moving across salary payments and direct debits.

He added: "It is our priority to offer customers good value for money on their current account," saying the deal was "the easiest £100 you'll ever make".

Abbey published the results of a study yesterday which revealed that many Brits were running out of money before the end of the month because they failed to budget properly.

For customers struggling to make their salary stretch a month, Abbey's new giveaway could be a welcome, if temporary, relief.
