LV= annuity offering strengthened

LV= has announced the strengthening of its annuity offering, meaning that customers who pay into the pension plan could potentially receive higher levels of income.

The pension provider has decreased the number of medical conditions that can prevent clients being accepted for the enhanced annuity rate.

Clients with conditions like high blood pressure and high cholesterol who declare them when signing up can now qualify for the enhanced rate, which LV= says could see them earn as much as 7.5 per cent more than annuity with the market leading provider.

Matt Trott, head of annuities at LV=, said: "We hope the improvements to our enhanced annuity will encourage more people to apply and potentially receive a higher income in retirement."

Earlier this week, a study by Prudential revealed that many people were withdrawing from pension plan payments or reducing their contributions because of the credit crunch.
