Halifax: Elmbridge offers best quality of life

In a survey which examined data at local authority level, Halifax found that people living in Elmbridge had an average life expectancy of 80.4 years, earned an average of £1,048 per week and had children who scored above average at GCSE level.
However the mortgage lender said that living in places like Elmbridge came at a price, warning that house prices in the top 30 local authority areas tended to be a long way above average.
Martin Ellis, chief economist at Halifax, said that houses in Elmbridge traded at £170,000 above the average price for the region.
He added: "South Norfolk, Baberge, Rochford and St. Edmundsbury are four areas that have a high quality of life combined with lower than average house prices, therefore offering good value for money housing."
Earlier this month the National Association of Estate Agents said that homeowners were cutting the asking prices on houses across the UK, as the housing market continued to flag.
