Abbey Credit Cards: Appetite for Christmas will withstand recession

Abbey Credit Cards has conducted research which reveals that despite having to pay more for their Christmas dinner this year, Brits will still be tucking in with gusto.

The study showed that while a Christmas turkey with all the trimmings is expected to cost up to ten per cent more this year than in 2007, people will cut back on socialising and luxuries in the run up to Christmas rather than cutting back on their festive feast.

Abbey Credit Cards said 47 per cent of those surveyed would sacrifice their social life for the sake of their Christmas dinner, while 31 per cent would spend less on presents.

Callum Gibson, head of credit cards at Abbey, said: "We all know it's going to be a tough Christmas, and […] it's great to see that Britons are determined not to let it spoil their Christmas lunch."

Earlier this month a study by Verdict Research confirmed that the price of Christmas food and grocery shopping would rise significantly this year.
