AA Insurance warns of Christmas car break-ins

AA Insurance has issued a warning to shoppers over the Christmas period to be wary of an increase in car break-ins.

According to police statistics, property is stolen from cars every 13 seconds in the UK and AA Insurance says it expects claims for thefts from cars to increase by around ten per cent during December and January.

The insurer cautioned busy Christmas shoppers to be careful not to leave valuable presents in cars, lest they tempt thieves.

Simon Douglas, the director of AA Insurance, said: "By […] not leaving valuable items on display you can greatly reduce the risk of falling prey to Grinch-style thieves who will not hesitate to steal your Christmas."

Last month the price comparison site Confused.com also advised car owners to be extra careful over the winter period, as bad weather conditions could cause an increase in the number of accidents.
