AXA: Europe rates UK drivers safest

AXA has released the results of a survey in conjunction with its car insurance subsidiary, swiftcover.com, which reveals that Europeans consider Brits to be the continent's safest drivers.

The study showed that over a third of Europeans think UK drivers are the safest and that 92 per cent of British motorists feel safe on the UK's roads, 20 per cent above the European average.

People in the UK are also better educated about the dangers of drink driving than and talking on a mobile while out on the road their European counterparts.

Tina Shortle, marketing director at swiftcover.com, said: "It is clear that British drivers put safety higher up on the agenda when driving compared to their European neighbours."

Drink driving offences, even after they have been served, cause car insurance premiums to rise by an average of 82 per cent, according to research published by moneysupermarket.com last month.
