Lloyds TSB announces 'multi-brand strategy'

Halifax and the Bank of Scotland will continue to exist on high streets in the UK in 2009, thanks to the multi-brand strategy announced by Lloyds TSB today.

Lloyds TSB is set to take over the Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS) group next year, after the acquisition was approved by its shareholders last month.

But the bank announced today that Halifax branches in England and Wales will continue to operate under the Halifax logo and brand, while Bank of Scotland branches will do likewise in Scotland.

Lloyds TSB said the merger will give it the largest network of bank branches in the UK.

Eric Daniels, Lloyds TSB group chief executive, said: "We believe that our brands are the strongest in the UK retail financial services sector and we are very focused on growing and developing them."

Last month two senior ex-bankers, including the former chief executive of the Bank of Scotland, tried to stop the buyout deal saying it did not offer the best value for shareholders.
