Insurancewide responds to BBC 'accusations'

Insurance comparison website Insurancewide has responded to claims made about the price comparison website industry in a recent BBC documentary.

The website said it agreed with the BBC's decision to expose the shortcomings of irresponsible price comparison website, but denied what it saw as the assertion that they all benefit from 'click through' payments from insurance companies when customers clicked through to their site.

A spokesman from the website said: "Insurancewide.com only ever receives a fee if its recommendation is taken up by the consumer and the policy is bought.

"It's simply not in our interest to flout guidelines or mislead customers."

The BBC2 documentary, called Price Comparison Sites: Deal or No Deal, quoted a professor from the University of East Anglia who said that some price comparison sites did not show quotes from all providers and speculated that this may have something to do with the commission offered by different companies.
