Despite the credit crunch, the insurer says there is likely to be an increase in the number of new valuables in most households as people give gifts to their loved ones.
Keith Maxwell, head of home insurance at More Th>n, said that the gloomy economy may mean families are looking to bring a little more Christmas cheer to their homes by adding extra lights.
He added: "More Th>n home insurance covers outdoor lighting and offers a 10 percent increase in cover - hopefully a little something to help with festivities and make sure that people will not be under-insured."
Recently, data published by Norwich Union Insurance revealed that burglaries may increase over the festive period.
