Halifax: Women savvier about saving for Christmas

A new survey published by Halifax has revealed that women are better at preparing and budgeting for Christmas than men.

According to the data, 30 per cent of women said they had started saving specifically for Christmas earlier this year, compared with just 15 per cent of men.

Nearly half the women surveyed by the bank said they had prepared a list of which Christmas presents they need to buy, compared with just over one-quarter of men.

Across both sexes, 71 per cent of the population said they would be using savings to pay for Christmas this year, rather than going further into debt.

Mike Regnier, Halifax's head of banking, said: "It's encouraging to see that more consumers are becoming prudent with their finances this year by choosing to use their savings […] to pay for their Christmas purchases."

A recent survey by Halifax Credit Cards found that the real cost of many popular Christmas presents had fallen this year.
