Brits resolve to sort out finances in New Year

Gocompare.com has unveiled research which show that the most popular New Year’s resolution for 2009 will be to sort out personal finances, following the credit crunch.

According to the study, more than 20 million people in the UK plan to make New Year’s resolutions and 60 per cent of them say that sorting out their pesonal finances will be their priority.

Gocompare.com found that getting themselves out of debt a priority for half of those making money-based resolutions, while 42 per cent of them said their priority would be saving on their outgoings.

Hayley Parsons, Gocompare.com's chief executive, said: "In the current financial climate it's not surprising that money matters top the list."

Recently, MoneyExpert.com released research which showed that many people are still paying off credit card debts from last Christmas in the build up to the festive season this year.
