Halifax: More Brits get set for January sales

Halifax has released the results of a survey which suggest that the number of Brits taking advantage of the January sales will increase in the coming year.

According to the bank’s poll, 48 per cent of consumers will be bargain hunting in January next year, compared to 39 per cent at the start of 2008.

One in four shoppers hitting the January sales expects to spend more than they did in 2008, while just over one-third said they expect to spend about the same.

Mike Regnier, head of banking at Halifax, said: "After spending in the run up to Christmas, it can make a welcome change to buy something for ourselves in the January sales."

Meanwhile, the most popular New Year’s resolution in the UK will be to sort out personal finances and pay off debts, according to a survey conducted by Gocompare.com.
