Halifax Financial Services: Shop around for financial bargains in January

Halifax Financial Services has advised shoppers to seek out the best bargains on financial products as they hit the January sales in shops.

The bank said that now is "the ideal time" for people to get on top of their finances, despite the tradition of spending over the festive period and during the January sales.

Halifax advised people to pay particular attention to their pensions after a survey revealed that 85 per cent of people overestimated the amount they will realistically be able to save to cover their retirement.

Karen Crowshaw, managing director of Halifax Financial Services, said: "By making a few small changes today and seeking the appropriate advice, you could make some significant financial gains in the future.

"In light of the recent financial climate, it has never been more important to seek out the best product deals available."

Halifax published a separate survey just before Christmas which revealed that despite the credit crunch, many UK consumers are planning on spending more in January sales this year.
