Abbey Business Banking: 29 is best age to start a business

Abbey has released the results of a survey which show that 29 is considered the best age to start up a business.

The bank asked small and medium enterprise (SME) owners what they consider to be the ideal age to go it alone, finding that 29 was the average age.

However, Abbey discovered that the average age of that the SME owners questioned set up their own businesses was 35, suggesting that many wish they had started younger.

Paula Ickinger, a spokesperson for Abbey Business Banking, said: "To most of us 29 may seem like a young age to start a business, but the advice from those who have already done so is clear, if you have an idea, you should act."

This morning the business secretary, Peter Mandelson, unveiled a £20 billion investment plan aimed at persuading banks to lend to small and medium-sized businesses in the UK.
