British 'more upbeat than other nations' on personal finance

People in the UK are among the least pessimistic in the world when it comes to personal finance, according to a new poll.

The WIN research network questioned people in 17 countries to gauge their opinions on the economy and found that the UK was in the bottom half when it comes to personal finance worries.

Looking ahead at the coming year, a quarter of Britons believe that their income will decrease, but almost half (48 per cent) expect it to stay the same, the Guardian reports.

However, people here are not so upbeat about the economy in general, with three-quarters saying they fear further deterioration.

Asked how they rated the government's ability to address the economic crisis, UK respondents gave it a mark of 4.5 out of ten - below the average of 5.2.

The results follow a report by Life Trust in which it was found that 12 per cent of Brits are considering putting off their retirement on account of the economic situation.
