Zurich car insurance welcomes crackdown

Road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick announced earlier this week that a new system would help crackdown on the "selfish minority" who persist in taking to the roads without insurance.
The rules will see offenders hit with a £100 fine and could ultimately result in their vehicles being crushed if they continue to ignore warnings to take out insurance.
Commenting on the news, managing director of Zurich's direct business in the UK Mike Quinton said the laws would make it "much easier" to keep illegal drivers off the roads.
"For too long, uninsured drivers have thought themselves to be above the law and this needs to stop - and stop now," he declared.
The news was also welcomed by the AA this week, with the organisation claiming that uninsured drivers add around £30 to the cost of annual premiums for innocent motorists.
