Abbey Credit Cards: Brits stop dining out during credit crunch

Abbey has released the results of a survey which shows that the credit crunch has "dramatically" altered Brits' eating habits.

The research found that more than half of people in the UK have cut back on eating out and reduced the number of meals they have in pubs and restaurants.

Abbey also found that many people in the UK are eating fewer takeaways, with 44 per cent saying they are cutting out kebabs and pizzas in favour of cooking their own food.

Callum Gibson, head of credit cards at Abbey, said: "The current economic climate means that people are looking to make cutbacks where they can to make their money go further."

Research conducted by Abbey credit cards in the lead up to Christmas revealed that many Brits were cutting out other luxuries to ensure that they could spend the usual amount on their Christmas dinner.

However these latest results suggest that the UK's appetite for eating expensive food has taken a hit since then.
