Nationwide: New tracker bond launched

Nationwide Building Society has announced the launch of a new savings product which will pay differing amounts of interest depending on the Bank of England's base rate.

Interest rates on the new Tracker Bond, which will be made available to customers from February 2nd, will also vary according to the amount of money deposited in the account.

The one year bond will offer interest rates of anything between 2.05 per cent and 2.30 per cent above the base rate, which currently stands at 1.5 per cent, its lowest level in 300 years.

Matthew Carter, Nationwide's divisional director of savings, said despite the low base rate, "we continue to offer a range of accounts with interest rate guarantees that offer long term value and a competitive range of fixed term bond products, including a new issue of our one year Tracker Bond".

Nationwide announced recently that it would cut the rate of interest offered on the majority of its savings products.
