Abbey Savings: Brits saving money with free activities

Abbey Savings has released research which shows that Brits are increasingly snapping up freebies in an attempt to make their pounds stretch further.

The bank conducted a survey which showed that one in four adults had cut their leisure costs by visiting public libraries and free museums in the past year, saving an estimated £77 per month each.

Abbey Savings also found that one in ten people had cancelled their gym membership and taken up jogging instead and that eight per cent had traded in their TV subscription for Freeview.

Reza Attar-Zadeh, director of savings and investments at Abbey, said: "Brits are finding more and more ways to make their cash go further and it's now even being reflected in our leisure time. Clearly having fun doesn't have to cost money."

With the heavy snowfall that has recently covered many parts of the UK, thousands of people have taken to tobogganing in local parks.
