PayPal: Recession causing an increase in arguments

PayPal has conducted research which reveals that the recession is causing an increase in the number of arguments couples have.

The online payment service provider found that 32 per cent of couples in the UK claim to be arguing more often this year than previously, with financial issues being one of the major bones of contention.

PayPal also found that 80 per cent of UK couples now use separate bank accounts, compared with 71 per cent a year ago.

Carl Scheible, managing director of PayPal UK, said: "We've also found that financial tensions tend to come to the surface once the honeymoon period is over, with over 90 per cent of couples admitting they began arguing about money after they had been together for a while."

More than 150 million people use PayPal worldwide and its services are available in 18 different currencies.
