UK couples 'discussing finances more openly'

A survey published recently has revealed that people in the UK have become more open about discussing their financial situation with their partner, as a result of the ongoing recession.

The poll, conducted by PayPal, revealed that the economic crisis means one in five couples talk about their finances more openly.

PayPal also found that couples in the UK are less likely to break up over financial issues than those in the US, with nine per cent of Brits claiming to have ended a relationship because of financial issues, compared with 14 per cent of Americans.

Carl Scheible, managing director of PayPal UK, said: "As the recession becomes reality, British couples are facing new challenges within their relationships.

"It's good to see that difficult times are prompting us to talk about money, as it's far easier to cope with financial worries when we're open with each other about them."

PayPal, an online payments service provider, recently won an award for its prepaid card at the UK Card Awards.
