Halifax Credit Cards: Brits spend on sprucing up for Valentine's Day

Halifax Credit Cards has published research which reveals that Brits are likely to increase the amount they spend on improving their appearance before Valentine's Day.

The bank found that Brits used their credit cards to buy an average of £43 worth of cosmetics in the build up to the occasion last year. In addition, they spent an average of £42 on clothes and £38 on shoes.

Halifax Credit Cards also found that the UK's Valentine's Day spending habits differed from region to region, with those in the midlands spending £43 on flowers while Scots spent £69 on wining and dining their partners.

Alan Brindley, from Halifax Credit Cards, said: "Our research shows that Brits do have big hearts when it comes to Valentine's Day, but this doesn't have to mean a broken wallet."

Recently, Cheshire Building Society published a list of suggestions of cheap romantic ideas for recession-hit Romeos to try out this Valentine's Day.
