Brits 'gloomy about financial outlook'

A survey has revealed that the majority of Brits are gloomy about the financial outlook for 2009 and 2010.

The Nottingham, which conducted the poll, claims that 80 per cent of respondents predict that the credit crunch will last until the end of 2010, despite the fact the best efforts of the government and the Bank of England to reverse the shrinking of the economy.

Nearly one in five of those under the age of 45 said they are worried about the prospect of losing their jobs as unemployment rises.

The Nottingham's Lorraine Giddings said: "Not knowing what the future holds is a significant cause for concern for many people, particularly those aged under 45."

Official figures released by the Office for National Statistics recently revealed that 146,000 people have lost their jobs in the last three months. In total, nearly two million people are now unemployed in the UK.
