AA Car Insurance: Mobile phone offenders see premiums rise

AA Car Insurance has conducted a survey which reveals that being caught using a mobile phone while driving is likely to make motorists' car insurance premiums more expensive.

In a survey of eight insurers, the AA found that one refused outright to insure people with mobile phone convictions and the other seven increased their premiums by between 4.2 and 18.1 per cent.

The AA found that increased premiums can quadruple the cost of being caught using a mobile phone as they can amount to around four-times the standard fine.

Simon Douglas, director of AA Car Insurance, added: "Insurance companies rightly take such offences very seriously and in an extreme case, could void a policy."

Recently, the AA conducted a survey which showed that 100,000 people break the driving while using a mobile phone law every second.
