Abbey instant access saver launched

Abbey has unveiled a new issue of its popular instant access saver account, offering a competitive three per cent gross/AER.

The deal includes a 1.5 per cent bonus for the first 12 months and it has a minimum balance of £1,000, Abbey revealed.

The account will also go up to a maximum of £2 million, while it allows unlimited withdrawals without any penalty on the saver.

Abbey said the product remains the "best branch-based easy access account on the high street".

Reza Attar-Zadeh, director of savings and investments at Abbey, said: "So often savers have to sacrifice great rates for branch access but with the instant access saver you get the best of both."

Abbey is now owned by Spanish banking giant Santander, after being taken over by the group at the end of last year.

The move was aimed at shoring up Abbey against the financial turmoil that hit the banking sector and the organisation is now considered a much more stable financial institution due to its Spanish backers.
