Co-operative claims parents are teaching kids on recession

The Co-operative Financial Services has revealed that many adults in the UK are educating their children on the effects of the recession.

Research from the company found that 51 per cent of parents now take time to inform their children about the effects of the economic slowdown.

Furthermore, 62 per cent said they believe it is important that their young ones understand the magnitude of what is happening at present.

Zack Hocking, head of child trust funds at The Co-operative, said the statistics show that parents do not want to shield their sons and daughters from economic realities - which is a positive step.

"It's possible that one good thing to come from the current downturn will be a generation that's financially wiser and better equipped to manage their money through times of economic uncertainty," he continued.

The Co-operative also revealed in separate research that 13 per cent more people will forgo their Isa allowances this year than in 2008.
