Halifax Home Insurance finds Brits fear burglary

Halifax Home Insurance has released the results of a survey which show that burglary is the biggest fear keeping Brits awake at night.

According to the bank's Peace of Mind Index, 64 per cent of people in the UK worry about being burgled.

Other causes of anxiety include ID fraud, which worries 54 per cent of people and the theft of personal belongings outside the home, which affects 47 per cent of Brits.

Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager at Halifax Home Insurance, said: "This research has presented interesting findings, especially when broken down by age and region."

Halifax's survey found that the top fear for more than half of Scottish people is domestic fire, while Londoners worry about ID fraud more than most, despite the perception that burglary is rife in the capital.

With research by Abbey revealing that the number of domestic burglaries is set to rise because of the recession, such fears could well become more prevalent.
