Saga: Motor insurance costs persuade drivers to downsize

Saga calculated that nearly 2.7 million UK motorists have downsized to a model with a smaller engine in order to reduce their premiums, while a similar number have opted to increase the voluntary excess on their policies.
Andrew Goodsell, chief executive of Saga Group, said that by taking "simple steps", drivers could reduce the amount it will cost them to renew their policies this year.
He added: "Remembering to update your car insurance policy as your needs change can help save money on monthly premiums at a time when many people are looking to reign in their spending."
Recently, Gocompare.com calculated that switching car insurance providers saves customers an average of £207 a year.
