Abbey Savings paints picture of the typical UK saver

Abbey Savings has conducted a poll which has enabled it to build up a picture of the typical UK saver.

The survey revealed that the majority of savers in the UK put their money away in instant access savings accounts or cash individual savings accounts (ISAs).

Abbey's savings account division also found that on average, Brits deposits £163 per month into their savings accounts, but that this figure represents a £54 per cent decrease compared to the same period last year.

Reza Attar-Zadeh, director of savings and investments at Abbey, said: "This insight into the current state of British savings habits reveals a mixed picture - but the good news is it's not all doom and gloom."

Abbey is part of the Santander group, which boasts one of the world's biggest branch networks, with a total of 11,178 offices worldwide.
