Saddos 'suffer when it comes to car insurance'

A price comparison website has conducted research which reveals that saddos - those who have committed speeding and drink driving offences - usually suffer financially when it comes to buying car insurance.

Moneysupermarket.com found that people who get behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol can expect to see their premiums rise by an average of 91 per cent.

Additionally, those who are caught speeding once will see premiums rise by ten per cent on average, while being caught driving too fast three times can push premiums up by 83 per cent.

Andy Leadbetter, managing director of insurance at moneysupermarket.com, said: "Of course, the price you pay will be dependent on the severity of your conviction but finding yourself uninsurable or facing unmanageable insurance premiums as a result is surely something most motorists could do without."

Saga recently conducted research which showed that many drivers are taking measures to reduce their premiums, such as swapping their cars for smaller models.
