Bupa individual protection policy sales increase

Bupa has revealed that sales of its individual protection policies have increased in recent months.

The insurer claimed that sales of its critical illness cover, income protection policies and life assurance cover had increased by 38 per cent recently, suggesting that people are not cutting back on the amount they spend on insurance, despite the credit crunch.

Steve Casey, Bupa Individual Protection's head of product development and marketing, said: "To report a thirty-eight percent increase in such unpredictable economic times is credit to our supporting intermediary partners, the quality of our products and our continued commitment to innovation."

Income protection insurance, which helps people meet their credit card and mortgage payments if they are made redundant or are unable to work for some reason, may be benefitting from the increased job insecurity caused by the credit crunch.

Recent figures from the Office of National Statistics revealed that there are nearly two million unemployed people in the UK at the moment.
