However, Tescocompare.com has calculated that, when it comes to cars, it's the children of the generation 'Supermac' was addressing that are benefitting the most.
The price comparison site published a poll which reveals that young drivers today are getting behind the wheel of their own cars at an earlier age than their parents - the majority have their own car by the age of 19, while their parents had to wait until they reached 25.
Young motorists also drive better models as first cars than their parents, with 67 per cent owning superminis like Ford Fiestas of Vauxhall Corsas.
Tescocompare.com added: "In contrast, their parents often inherited a hand-me-down hatchback such as a VW Golf. One in ten were even driving family saloons like the Renault Laguna or Ford Mondeo."
