Sainsbury's Loans tells drivers: Haggle to get best prices

Motorists have been advised that now could be the best time to negotiate discounts on new vehicles.

According to Sainsbury's Bank, the car industry is currently in a very difficult position due to a significant drop in vehicle sales and as a result, dealers are likely to be more responsive to haggling customers.

The bank has claimed that would-be car purchasers could obtain a discount of up to50 per cent off a brand new vehicle by haggling, advising that people aim to achieve around £1,780 off the listed price.

Head of loans at Sainsbury's Steven Baillie commented: "It's a real shame some people still don't feel confident in doing so. We'd urge the 17,000 would-be purchasers … to give it a go."

For those who intend to purchase a car worth up to the value of £15,000, Sainsbury's recently announced that it is to offer one of the lowest personal loan rates on the market at 7.9 per cent APR.
