According to the organisation, around 20 per cent of householders who are planning to spend their holiday sprucing up their homes are likely to have some sort of accident in the form of paint spillages, broken furniture and water damage, for example.
On top of making a bigger mess at home by attempting jobs without adequate skill, many part-time handymen are sure to hurt themselves as well, AXA has claimed.
The organisation's head of household Nick Kidd warned: "We're a nation of enthusiastic DIYers but people need to be careful … It's worth checking out whether you've got suitable insurance in place."
Meanwhile, AXA recently issued a warning to householders who intend to spend the Easter holidays away from home of the dangers of leaving it unoccupied to the likes of arson and malicious damage.
