Britons 'pessimistic on property price prospects'

The current property market situation has left the majority of Britons pessimistic about housing prices.

According to new research conducted by consumer website Unbiased.co.uk, 58 per cent of people do not believe prices are likely to start recovering this year, while 18 per cent said they see no hope of an upturn until at least 2011.

Richard Winder, a spokesperson for the website, commented: "There is a general sense that investing in bricks and mortar will be out of fashion for many months to come … making many fist-time buyers park their plans until there are signs of improving conditions."

He added that those who are entering the market may wish to attempt haggling with vendors to get set prices down.

This comes after the website recently revealed that over half of UK mortgage borrowers on a tracker are not taking advantage of current low rates to overpay on their loans.
