Halifax Home Insurance: Homeowners consider moving because of crime

Halifax Home Insurance has conducted a survey which reveals that many homeowners in the UK are considering moving away from their current area of residence because of crime.

The poll revealed that 37 per cent of people in urban areas would consider moving from their neighbourhood because of they are worried about the levels of criminal activity.

This trend is most prevalent in London, where 36 per cent of people consider leaving their current home area because of crime.

Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager at Halifax Home Insurance, said: "The age-old dream of moving away from the big city to set up a peaceful life in the country is not unfamiliar to many urban dwellers."

Recent research by Abbey suggested that the recession may lead to an increase in the number of domestic break-ins in the UK, as poverty pushes more people towards crime.
