Confused.com welcomes car scrappage scheme

Confused.com has announced that it would welcome the proposed car scrappage scheme which may be included in today's budget announcement.

Will Thomas, head of motor insurance for the price comparison website, described the plan as "fantastic".

The proposed scheme would see the government offering motorists grants of up to £2,000 to trade in old vehicles for newer, more fuel-efficient models.

It is hoped that the car scrappage scheme would benefit the environment as well as providing a boost to the car manufacturing industry.

Will Thomas added: "New car registrations fell by more than 30 per cent last month alone, so a confidence boost by way of this incentive would be a welcome move to kick-start the car market again."

Recently, research conducted by uSwitch.com suggested that around 250 million people in the UK would seek to take advantage of the car scrappage scheme, should it be introduced.
