LV= travel insurance 'covers Mexico cancellations'

LV= has announced that its travel insurance policies will cover the cancellation costs of any of its customers who have booked holidays to Mexico but have decided not to go.

Following the outbreak of swine flu in Mexico, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has advised against all but essential travel to the country, meaning that many tourists heading of for their annual dose of spring sunshine could now be dissuaded from travelling.

LV= said: "The cover will be available for all single and annual trip customers who already have a policy with us and have a trip planned that was booked prior to the FCO advising against travelling."

Swine flu, a virulent strain of the influenza virus which is normally found in pigs, has already been responsible for more than 100 deaths in Mexico.

Two UK tourists returning from holidays in the country were recently diagnosed with the symptoms and are currently being treated at a hospital in Scotland.
