NLA survey finds friendly landlords are best

Friendly landlords who can communicate well with tenants are the most popular property owners, according to a survey published recently.

The poll of female landlords, conducted by the National Landlords Association (NLA), revealed that good customer relations is one of the most important skills, with 94 per cent of those surveyed rating it as number one.

Likewise good communication is important to tenants, with 87 per cent of respondents rating it highly.

Keeping rents low was not rated highly as a way to be seen as a good property owner.

David Salusbury, chairman of the NLA, said: "Female landlords demonstrate that with professionalism, creativity and a flexible approach, property can be a solid investment during the recession."

The NLA has more than 14,000 fee-paying members in the UK, ranging from full-time landlords with large property portfolios to people renting multiple occupancy houses and the owners of single bedroom flats.
