LV= has announced that it will extend its special offer of free critical illness cover to income protection insurance customers until the end of the year.

The offer was initially launched in February, but positive feedback from LV='s financial advisers has led the company to continue the offer for the next eight months.

All new customers taking out an LV= Flexible Protection Plan by 31 December 2009 will receive free lump sum critical illness cover, which is equivalent to three times their monthly income protection benefit.

Chris McFarlane, LV= head of protection, said: "Our extended offer will provide lump-sum financial relief following the diagnosis of a critical illness like cancer, coupled with a regular income in the case of a stress-related illness, for example."

Recently, Tesco announced that it is changing the structure of its health insurance policies, but that all customers will still be covered for cancer treatment.
