More money 'makes men happy'

A recent survey has found that men would need more money than women to make them happy.

The poll, conducted by smile, revealed that to be truly happy, men would need 27 per cent more money than women. Men said they wanted an average of £1,249,619, while women would settle for £983,799.

Smile's survey also revealed, however, that the events which make people happiest are those not associated with money, such as the birth of their first child or their wedding day.

John Barker, head of smile, said: "The research shows that there are many things in life which make us happy, we understand that the best things in life are free, but we also understand the value of financial security."

Smile is an online-only financial services provider which is part of the Co-operative Bank. Recently, the bank revealed it had seen a 123 per cent increase in the number of people switching to its current accounts.
