NatWest 'not delivering on advice promise'

Consumer magazine Which? has accused NatWest of not delivering on its promise to offer free and impartial financial advice as part of its MoneySense programme.

The scheme is meant to offer anyone the chance to consult an impartial financial adviser for free at given times in a NatWest branch, but Which? claims that the advice being offered is often partisan.

The magazine attended 20 MoneySense sessions and found that only four of the advisers present actually offered impartial advice, while six of the sessions featured advisers speaking exclusively about NatWest products.

Which? personal finance campaigns manager, Doug Taylor, said: "This would be an invaluable service if NatWest was always actually delivering on its promise of free, impartial financial guidance."

He added that the scheme is being "let down" by the poor standard of service delivered.

NatWest is part of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group, which is majority-owned by the UK taxpayer.
