Halifax Credit Cards: Brits keeping cards secret

Halifax Credit Cards has conducted research which reveals that hundreds of thousands of credit cards in the UK belong to Brits who are keeping them secret from their partners.

The bank estimates that there are around 217,000 secret credit cards in the UK. The main reason for keeping cards secret is to hide some purchases from a partner, according to Halifax's poll.

Halifax found that the second most-cited reason for secrecy was a desire to hide debts from a partner, while the third was keeping a card aside for use in emergencies.

Adrian Bryant, head of marketing for Halifax Credit Cards, said: "It's important that people are honest about their finances with their partner as it may affect their ability to secure products in joint names."

Recent research by PayPal found that the credit crunch has contributed to the number of arguments UK couples have over finances.
