Caravanners advised: Look after your valuables while on the move

Brits who love to travel with a caravan in tow have been advised by an insurance firm to ensure their valuables are fully covered before they hitch up and drive off.

According to esure, UK caravan parks predict that two million more of the mobile vehicles will be parked up in Britain this summer, meaning that now is the time for owners to make sure their insurance is sufficient should their valuables be stolen.

Therefore, those planning a caravan holiday this year should make sure they check their cancellation cover in case of a postponed trip, look up which items may or may not be protected by home insurance.

They should also consider adding personal possessions to their home insurance cover, it adds, as this would see them compensated for items if they are stolen while on the move.

"Whether you need to cancel your caravan site booking or make a claim following a theft, having the appropriate insurance and taking the right precautions will make for a happier and more hassle-free caravanning holiday," said Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure.

Bicycle-loving Brits were also advised to check their insurance policies last week after Conservative leader David Cameron's bicycle was stolen for the second time in the space of ten months.
